“....I am writing to thank you for your continual encouragement, support and advice, during the time that I have spent studying for RHS level 2 certificate with the IHRS. I have found the written modules produced by the IHRS enjoyable to read and invaluable to study. Having completed the course, I feel I have been led carefully through the various facets of the world of horticulture, in a way that implements the best possible establishment, in my own mind, of the material covered. Undertaking this period of study with the IHRS has guided me from being someone who gardens to earn a living to a professional gardener. .......I will be moving on to more advanced study with the IHRS, which I am sure will be a rewarding and enjoyable experience that I am looking forward to immensely. Many thanks . Steve H. UK

HORTICULTURE, from the Latin hortus, meaning garden and cultor,
for culture, is defined
as the "art of cultivating or managing a garden" of fruit,
vegetables and flowers,
hence HORTICULTURIST,
one engaged in such pursuits, especially scientifically, as
a profession.
The word garden derives from the Anglo Saxon gyrdon
which means to enclose.
Gardens
seem to be rooted in the desire of human beings to surround themselves with beautiful
plants, shade, and unique foods.
Paradise is the Persian word for garden; an allusion
to the concept that gardens are pleasure grounds.
