THE RHS (LEVEL 2) CERTIFICATES IN HORTICULTURE

This new level 2 qualification provides a route to employment in professional horticulture by assessing knowledge of the principles underpinning horticultural practices, and supports career development for those already working in the profession. It also provides a foundation for further learning or training in the field of horticulture.

 

There are no pre-requisites for entry to the qualification.

 

The qualification is accredited within the Qualifications and Credit Framework.

The RHS level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth, Propagation and Development

Course code RHS2/01

Course Summary:

 

This course covers units 1 - 4 of the qualification syllabus. The examination provides a total of 14 credits.

 

The course contains four Study Books:

Study Book 1      Plant classification, structure, and function
 

Study Book 2      Plant nutrition and the root environment
 

Study Book 3      Plant health
 

Study Book 4      Plant propagation

 

The course contains four Tutor Marked Assignments which need to be completed after the study of each book together with an end of course ’mock examination’. The RHS suggest that the course will involve some 140 hours of study and we therefore provide full tutorial support for a period of 12 months.  Additional time can be arranged but may be subject to supplementary fees.

The RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Garden Planning,
Establishment and Maintenance

Course Summary:

 

This course covers units 5 - 8 of the qualification syllabus. The examination provides a total of 14 credits.

 

The course contains seven Study Books:

Study Book 5a     Garden Features,  Plant Selection and Planning: An Introduction to Garden Design      

Study Book 5b     Soft Landscaping Elements 1: Grass, Trees & Shrubs;
                            Elements of Design; Hard Landscaping Elements; Garden Styles

Study Book 5c     Soft Landscaping Elements  2:  Herbaceous Perennials; Alpine and Rock Plants;
                            Biennials; Hardy Annuals; Half Hardy Annuals; Hanging Baskets and Patio Containers;
                            Bulbs, Corms and Tuberous Plants  for use throughout the Year; Winter and Spring;
                            Summer and Autumn; Key Design Elements; Health and Safety

 

Study Book 6      The choice, establishment and maintenance of garden plants and lawns
 

Study Book 7a    The production of of outdoor vegetables

Study Book 7b    The production of of outdoor fruit
 

Study Book 8      Protected environments and their use in plant cultivation

Course Summary:

 

This course is a combination of the two summaries above, covers units 1 - 8 of the qualification syllabus. Successful completion of the examinations provides a total of 28 credits.

 

The course contains the eleven Study Books listed above, the associated tutor marked assignments and an end of course ‘mock examination’. The RHS suggest that the course will involve some 280 hours of study and we therefore provide full tutorial support for a period of 24 months.  Additional time can usually be arranged but may be subject to supplementary fees.
